55 Quirky Questions for Readers: Part 3
This is the end of the 55 Quirky Questions for Readers. If you missed parts 1 & 2 you can read them first, though these questions aren’t in any particular order. Would love to hear some of your answers as well, and remember – if you are a blogger, you are welcome to take these questions and use them on your blogs as well! There are a few questions that I altered, so if you would like to see the originals, you can find them on Lydia’s blog (see part 1 for more information on her blog).

38. Favourite fictional character:
At the moment, Lisbeth Salander from the Millennium trilogy
39. Favourite fictional villain:
Darcy Rhone (from Something Borrowed and Something Blue by Emily Giffin).
40. Books I’m most likely to bring on vacation:
Whatever I’m excited to read at the time, doesn’t have to be a particular genre. Usually I try to pick something that I think will be engaging enough to keep my attention in busy airports and on planes, etc.
41. The longest I’ve gone without reading:
Towards the end of college I didn’t do much reading for pleasure. I was super busy and reading a lot for school.
42. Name a book you could/would not finish:
There are many for me. I give a book a shot, but if I don’t like it, I leave it. There are too many books in this world to make yourself read everything you start. Often, I’ll actually go back to books I’ve started and try them again because sometimes I end up loving them the second time around. For some books, timing is everything.
43. What distracts you easily when you’re reading?
Everything.
I have a classic case of ADD.
44. Favourite film adaptation of a novel:
There are so many that have been done very well. I find that the BBC Masterpiece Theater often does the closest renditions of the original story.
In bigger budget films, two instances where I thought the movie was actually better than the book was The Devil Wears Prada and Under the Tuscan Sun.
45. Most disappointing film adaptation:
I can’t think of any off the top of my head. I know there are hundreds, but none that are sticking out right now.
46. Most money I’ve ever spent in a bookstore at one time:
Mmmm, I’m not telling.
47. How often do you skim a book before reading it?
The whole thing?! Never!
48. What would cause you to stop reading a book halfway through?
If it became uninteresting to me. (Or possibly if it were scaring me too much.)
49. Do you like to keep your books organized?
No, but I have a method to my madness. I know pretty much where all of my books are.
50. Do you prefer to keep books or give them away once they’ve been read?
I keep them if I love them and I get rid of them if I don’t think I’ll ever look at them again (or if they’re books I’ve acquired but will never read).
51. Are there any books that you’ve been avoiding?
Sometimes the bulkier classics feel like they will be really time consuming, and that tends to make me put them off until later but otherwise none in particular. Although I often don’t get to all the books I want to, I don’t avoid them.
52. Name a book that made you angry:
I don’t get angry very easily. Usually, I have an inkling of what will be inside so it’s not surprising if the viewpoint is different. Although, I just read The Beats: A Graphic Novel and some of things that those guys did astonished me. One line from William Burroughs made me want to go back in time and punch him in the face (if you read the review you will know exactly which one).
53. A book I didn’t expect to like but did:
Plenty. Right now, for instance, I’m reading Bleak House. I didn’t expect to like it, but I am! I started reading it because I have never read Dickens and thought doing it with the read-a-long (that’s happening in the blog world) would be a good way to try him.
54. A book I expected to like but didn’t:
Too many to list. Literature is an art form. You aren’t going to like everything, and that’s the beauty of having the multitude of genres, authors, and books!
55. Favourite pleasure reading:
I love a good chick-lit novel (or comforting light fiction read)… especially the ones that are so entertaining you just devour them! It’s like being on a vacation. I also really enjoy well written fast paced historical fiction… I eat those up.

That collage is so lovely! What’s your favorite Masterpiece Classic adaptation? I adored this year’s version of Emma–it made me finally read the novel.
Thank you! I am in love with Tumblr now. I had to start my own journal on there. Booklover is a great one because she has such fantastic pictures.
I adored Emma as well! (I actually bought the series and have watched it again since). I have not read Emma yet, so I don’t know how close the adaptation was, but it made me want to read it too! I was so impressed with their 1995 version of Pride and Prejudice because it was astonishingly close to the book (I know that’s a popular one to say, but it’s because it was done so well). I have to say that seeing parts of Cranford (which was on before Emma) made me want to read that book as well.
I’m glad to see your reading Dickens. I’ve only read one (A Christmas Carol) but I want to read more!
I’m really liking him so far! I had reservations because I thought he would be stodgy, but I think he’s fantastic.
How did you manage to get through school without reading Dickens?? I love Dickens.. I had to read it in school but I would have happily read it on my own. Bleak House is the one book I have not read though. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it.
You’ve been busy!! Your blog looks fantastic!! I love the header. Simple, yet sophisticated.
I have no idea! I never had Dickens on a reading list, isn’t that crazy? I am really liking Bleak House, but still have a long way to go. I will post a full review when I am finished. I’ve heard lots of complaints about his writing style, but I am finding it wonderful. Which of his was your favorite?
And, thank you about the blog design! I’ve been having a design bug lately and just can’t stop playing. But I really like this look (at least for now).
These were so fun to read. I know I’m going to have to do some posts with these questions at some point.
