What I Thought:

I might be the last person on Earth to read Janet Evanovich, but as I’m going through a frivolous, entertain-me-or-be-gone, escapism phase in my reading right now I decided to pick her up. My mom likes her Stephanie Plum series, so I decided to order that and this, Full House, from Paperback Swap a little while ago. I finally picked this up the other night and was in reading heaven. Cue the ocean, cabana boys, and tropical music. Pull up a lounge chair, an umbrella and bring me fruity daquari, por favor! Because I’m now ready to spend the next few weeks plowing through Ms. Evanoviches catalog of books.

The plot moves quickly and we aren’t burdened by long backstories. The reader gets the details they need but Evanovich plows right into the story and keeps it coming. Cheesy sentences, plenty of over-the-top characters (really, who marries a wrestler), and a leading lady who is closer to what you see in the mirror than on the cover of Vogue. Gotta love a great, mindless, novel.

Billie Pearce, a divorcee with two elementary aged kids, takes up polo lessons with the wealthy Nick Kaharcheck at his polo stable. She ends up getting much more than she bargained for, if you know what I mean (insert cheesy wink here). And while problems get resolved incredibly quickly (which is exactly how you want them to be resolved if you are reading to take a break from your regular routine),  Evanovich throws in a little twist just to spice things up at the end.

Really, people, you gotta love a woman who gives her heroine a man’s name, and her characters Eastern European surnames.. it’s like she’s writing directly for me or something. And let’s just say any author with an “ich” at the end of her name is good people by me. :)

Enjoy this light, easy book knowing that it will not change your life, but it will add just the right amount of delightful cheese, easy plot, guessable ending, and comforting mindlessness. On to the next Janet Evanovich novel!

I love Evanovich because her books make me laugh. I haven’t read Full House, but you said a magic word in your review – POLO. I just ordered the book – thanks for the rec :)

I really enjoyed reading your review. Most people would agree that Evanovich books are a bit mindless but sometimes (emphasis on the sometimes), that’s not really a bad thing. Thanks for sharing this.

Not a bad thing at all. I’m in the mood to just enjoy the book and not think too much right now, so am loving Evanovich for that!

Evanovich is perfect when you need a snarky, witty, fun book. I introduced my mom to the Stephanie Plum series and she’s hooked.

I love these books for just being there when I need an afternoon of reading and want to just rip through a book during it!

I just started One For the Money last night before bed and am already tearing through it. Have even been reading it through breakfast and lunch today (and I normally don’t eat and read unless I’m at a restaurant alone)!

There’s a nice anthology out there (I own it) that has the first three Stephanie Plum books in a row. Great way to get started. Wallace, if you like ONE FOR THE MONEY, just wait – the second and third books are even funnier.(If you can stand it.) In the third book, THREE FOR THE DOUGH (I think that’s the title) something happens that’s SO funny (has to do with Stephanie and Lula in a car on the Jersey turnpike – I can say no more), I actually fell out of bed laughing. (Once you’ve read it, we’ll talk.) I used to say that reading Janet Evanovich can be dangerous to your health. I still say it. Ha! Lucky you discovering them for the first time.

I am loving it Yvette! My mom has read all these books including the in-between-the-numbers ones. So we’ve been having fun talking about it. She just got the new one that is starting a new series (Wicked Appetite) and I am jealous! I might have to go up and steal it from her when she is done. :)

I will be looking out for the scene in the car. I’ve already laughed out loud a few times in One for the Money… which I was actually surprised about! Loving Evanovich!
