48 Hour TBR Read-a-Thon: Winter ’11

January 31, 2011
by

It’s time for the Second 48 Hour TBR Read-a-Thon! In case you didn’t join us for Read-a-Thon Summer ’10 here’s what the Read-a-Thon is all about…

Are you like me with piles of book (or lists of books) a mile long on your To-Be-Read (TBR) list? Although I do read more than the average Jane, I don’t read as much as I would like to. I keep passing my bookshelf wanting to get some of those books read! So, this weekend (February 4th-6th) I am going to limit the TV and the random errands and I’m going to READ! I’ll be out in the country at my mom’s (it’s her birthday weekend, shout out to mom!), a great place for reading. I’m rather looking forward to using the next few days to pick a few books off of my shelf to put in my Read-a-Thon pile and pack to bring with me! (It will be a great time to get a jumpstart on the Villette read-a-long).

So are you in? Mark your calendars and come read with me this weekend!

If You’re In:

  1. Choose a few books from your To Be Read pile that you will attempt to finish this weekend (Friday evening through Sunday night).
  2. Post your TBR Read-a-Thon books on your blog so your readers can see what you are attempting for the weekend.
  3. Challenge your readers to read along with you! (It’s OK if they don’t, but might be fun if they want to choose at least one book to participate with).
  4. Join the discussion all weekend long at #bookblogchat on Twitter.
  5. Post updates on your blog about what you are reading and what you have finished (full reviews can come later, but this will let your readers know what you are reading so they can either read along or look forward to your reviews!)
  6. Visit other blogs that are doing the read-a-long. Post comments and follow your fellow bloggers.
  7. Make sure you sign up here with Mr. Linky with a link to your first post so we can follow your progress!
  8. *If you don’t have a blog but want to participate: Sign up with Mr. Linky, just don’t add a website (or you can link to your Twitter or GoodReads page).*

If You Can’t Join, but Want to Support:

  1. Check out the blogs that are participating below in the Mr. Linky list.
  2. Visit those blogs and leave comments and encouragement
  3. Add to your own TBRs as you see what others are reading!

I hope you’ll join in on the fun. It does not matter how many books you read (1 or 100 — actually, if you read 100 I might be so impressed that I send your name to the Guinness Book of World Records), just read! There are no tangible prizes, but hopefully being part of the community of readers and learning about great new blogs will be incentive enough.

Please spread the word on your own blog and on Twitter!

Awesome way to celebrate the end of football season! Thanks for putting this all together.

Yes, celebration for the end of football, for sure! I get my quiet Sundays back instead of hearing my neighbors go crazy next door, haha. Glad you’re joining. :)

Count me in! I’ll write a post either Wednesday or Thursday. I’m so excited!

Fantastic, thanks! This will help me stay off the TV… not sure it will help you stay off the computer if you’re updating, but at least will put some more books on the list of Read in 2011. ;)

Love to join in! This might be a dumb question but…where can I grab your button from? I can’t open the link above…?

Do you know how to add images to your sidebar? Just drag (or rick click and save) the smaller image to your desktop and then upload it into your sidebar. When it asks for the URL you want the image to connect to, just copy and paste the following into that line: http://unputdownables.net/2011/01/31/48-hour-tbr-read-a-thon-winter-11/#comments

Let me know if it’s confusing.. I’m sure someone with your same platform (which platform do you use to blog, by the way) can help! :)

AH hah! Thanks – got it. So simple really, I should have known! :)

I’m in! My TBR continues to be longer than me, so I really need to reduce it. I have some useful things I’m meant to be getting done this weekend but I might just put them aside and get on with the reading. Expanding my mind is useful too, right?

    • February 2, 2011 4:27 pm

Haha, yes! Join us and read all weekend instead of getting useful things done. ;)

I’m back for another round. I really enjoyed taking the time to read last time. I’ve posted my first entry and I’ll be adding my book choices soon. Hope to talk to everyone on twitter as well.

I’m in–always ready for an excuse to just read all weekend. I’m afraid I don’t do Twitter, so I won’t be able to join in there. Got my post up though.

  8. February 3, 2011 5:24 pm

I just posted about it on my Coffee and a Book Chick Facebook site, so excited! :) Stop by!

  9. February 4, 2011 7:55 am

    I just signed-up :) I can’t wait to start :) Thanks for hosting!

I am not going to join officially since I have a huge school assignment on Saturday and friends over on Sunday, but I might squeeze in a book. I will try to visit the blogs to see what others are reading though :)

Hi! Found you over at Miss Remmer’s blog and thought this was a great idea for this weekend! I’ve got tons of reading to get through and am kinda snowed in, so it’s a perfect time for a read-a-thon!

  12. February 4, 2011 12:55 pm

Just found this so I’m late getting started so I’ll do my post tomorrow. My main goal is just to get the 300 pages read that I have left in American Wife.

Good to have you! I really enjoyef that book for the most part. It slows down in the middle, but picks back up at the end. It was so interesting to research what was true and what wasn’t.

  13. February 4, 2011 4:06 pm

I’m in! I’m just about to post my blog with a list.
