Hello New York City!

May 24, 2011

I’m here! I’m here! Land of Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte. And George Washington and the Revolutionary war (of course). Really, you know you’re a book nerd when you’re looking around the city thinking about one of the books you are reading right now (in this case John Adams).

Though I wanted to go sing karaoke tonight with friends, I decided getting a late dinner and heading to my hotel would be the best option. Though three hours doesn’t seem like a big time difference, when it comes to trying to go to bed and get up at normal times, it makes quite a difference! Yikes!

Here is my plan for BEA — I didn’t make one. Yep. I’m heading over tomorrow to scope out the scene. I have a map and I have my Kirkus review to help me out a bit, but mostly I just want to get the lay of the land and experience it. I’ll be back tomorow afternoon to let you know how that goes. Thursday, once I know what to expect, I can either make a more specific plan or (if tomorrow works well) I’ll continue on my random BEA touring plan. Friday is the Book Blogger Convention, and I’m hoping to meet up with some of my blogger friends if I haven’t already by then.

In other plans, tomorrow is Oprah’s last show ever! Ah! I will be watching it with friends and champagne — cheersing Ms. Winfrey off on her way. And on Thursday night I’m seeing The Book of Mormon with a friend. Can. Not. Wait. It’s supposed to be fantastic (14 Tony nominations fantastic).

On another note, thanks for participating in my poll from yesterday! If you didn’t get a chance, you still can vote!

How did you get tickets to The Book of Mormon??? I AM SO JEALOUS. x10000000.

I bought them back when I bought my plane tickets. I had just seen the guys on The Daily Show, so it was fresh in my head to try to grab tickets. So glad I did — now it’s so popular!

One more thing I forgot to mention…now that you are near 30 Rock have you read Bossypants? Tina Fey’s book. It is AMAZING. It is like watching a marathon of 30 Rock with a splash of SNL. I seriously laughed out loud on the airplane (so embarrassing!)

Hi! Will totally give our favorite lion a pat (love that you told me about that!). About Bossypants: my mom bought it the day before I was leaving a couple of days ago, so I read half of it and will read the other half when I’m back up there. For some reason it was a little disappointing to me. However, I didn’t get very far into her career yet (and I’m thinking that might be the good part?). So, my hopes are still high. ;)

      What are you reading now?

Wish I was there… maybe next year! Keep us posted on what’s going on!

Lucky! I’m green with envy ;) Hope you have a fantastic time with BEA and everything else NYC. Enjoy The Book of Mormon! And keep us posted! Oh, and tell Liz Lemon, “Hi!” for me :)

Thanks! Will do. I plan to stalk her if I see her… think she’ll want to be besties with me after that?

Thanks! Wish you were here – you will be next time! (See my comment above about Bossypants… so surprised because she’s my fave!)

I hope you have a great time at the Mormon show and with friends watching Oprah’s last show. How did you like the last show btw?! I watched it and was sad when she talked about her audience and how much she learned from them and her guests.

Thanks! So looking forward to the show tonight! I thought her show was perfect. I had no idea how she would end it and the way she did stayed true to the show. Couldn’t you see her making that speech into a book? She has never really written one of her own. I’m kind of thinking she might.

I think it would be great for her to write her own book, especially now that she’s made all those inroads with her book club. I would read a book by her!
