I was sent a review copy of this book and I reeeeeaaalllyyyy want to read it.
But I’m terrified.
Here’s the thing – I actually LOVE scary. What I don’t like is not being able to go to bed at night… kind of ruins the experience. And lest you think it’s only one night, please note that I have a very special kind of brain that keeps all The Scary locked in one place so that it can surprise me whenever it feels like it… months, even years, later. Which would be pretty awesome if you think it’s thrilling to lie in bed at night sure that a ghost/murderer/rapist/… (I was going to name something else, but nope, it’s the ghosts, murderers, and rapists that I have The Problems with) are in your closets waiting for you to fall asleep.
I’ll still read this book – I have a copy sitting next to my bed, so it’s as good as implanted in my brain anyway, but I’m wondering if anyone else has read it (and if so, were you able to sleep at night)? If you haven’t read it – are you going to? Apparently Tana French is a master at psychological thrillers, and this book is on most best seller lists right now.

I have a copy of this on my TBR pile and am looking forward to it. Everyone has a different threshold for scary, mine is pretty low, and I havent found her scary, in her other books I liked her fascinating characters and twisty plots.
I’m totally okay with a bit of messing-with-the-head, it’s just if I think the thing could happen to ME that I start to get scared. Is it like that? (I was absolutely fine with books like Gone Girl and the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series.)
It’s funny to read this post –I finished this one recently (no review yet), but only read during the day and on my lunch hour. It’s very very good and not toooooooo scary IMO…..except for……………enjoy
Oh great – now I’ll be reading waiting for the “except for” part around every corner.
I’m a total scaredy cat. I can’t even watch Law & Order: SVU without being freaked out. But I read Broken Harbor. Granted, the first night I was totally spooked. And it did stay in my mind for quite a while, but it was fantastic!
Ooooh, good to know (because I also can’t watch L&O). Hmmmm… it was worth it though?
I finished this book a couple of days ago. It was a little bit scary in parts. However, I found it more sad than anything else. Definitely worth the read!
Good to know – thanks!
Wow! I want to read it so badly just by reading that you’re terrified of it!!! It’s now high on my must-read list!
Hahaha, glad I could help.
I’m reading it right now – fortunately the scary creepies generally only bother me at night if I read them at bedtime and lately I fall asleep as soon as I hit the bed so that’s not happening. But now you’ve got me worried…
