#bblog
I started the discussion on Twitter at #bookclogchat for book bloggers to have discussions about books and their blogs. There are so many discussions that happen about the “business” side of blogs, and I thought it might be nice to have a conversation with other bloggers as if we were just sitting around at coffee together. Occasionally there will be some scheduled discussions so that we can all participate together, but mostly just add #bookblogchat to the end of you Tweet and people will know you have a question or comment for book bloggers. Hope to see you there!
**Note: after the September 10th discussion on #bookblogchat, I will be merging with #bblog. Please see the main website for #bblog here.**
(If you have something you would like to chat about that would encourage community for book bloggers, leave me a comment below and I will take it into consideration. Thanks!)
Upcoming organized chats:
Friday, July 30th, 2010: Kick off for the 48 hour read-a-thon the chat will be about how we keep our blogs authentic. The point of this discussion is to talk about how, in this world of marketing and capitalism, do we keep our blogs true to ourselves (and why we started them). Let’s call a spade a spade, nobody wants to blog for no audience (and if you’re saying you do, then I will have to check your followers… I would bet a million dollars you are one of the ones who has hundreds or thousands of them and frankly, it’s easy to say you do it for the love of it once you already know that other people love it too). And some of us would even love to make money off of what we spend so much time doing. So how do we not let all of that interfere with our ability to keep it real and down to earth on our blogs? Is it possible to do both?
Friday, August 13, 2010 (Noon PST): Sometimes, as a blogger, it is easy to become self absorbed (or should I say blog absorbed)? It is also easy to become shy about reaching out to others and making yourself part of the community. Come to this chat ready to share about your favorite book blogs, features, memes, and events. Also bring your calendar so you can mark down all of the fun things going on in the blogging world!
Friday September 10, 2010 (11am PST): How do you keep up with your blog community? How do you decide who is on your blogroll, or if you should even have one? How do you remember who’s blog you’ve been to when? In this discussion we will share our secrets for organizing our blog community. It’s important to make sure you are visiting other blogs and supporting them as well as hoping that they will support you. This is the best way to continue to create community. Do you have an allotted time each day? Do you have a schedule? A list that you follow? Come with your ideas and ways of keeping on top of encouraging and supporting other blogs (as well as adding new ones to that rotation)!

I really enjoy checking in on Twitter to this group. I mentioned it in my “Things I Learned This Week” post with a link back here at http://www.zemeks.blogspot.com. I tried adding you to my blog roll but your title wouldn’t show up, don’t know why. I’d participate in your scheduled chats but I’m at work at those times.
Thanks! I’ll try to schedule a weekend one sometime so that those people who don’t work at the computer can join.
Anyone with blogger might have a hard time adding me to blogroll because in order to have my header I can’t put in the title of my blog (It looks silly) and it seems that Blogger can’t override this. However, if you (or anyone with blogger) would like to, they can add my using this link which will direct people to my blog: http://unputdownables.blogspot.com/
Thanks for visiting!
I’m on Blogger, and I have added you to a list of blogs that I follow. I think the trick is to add your blog to the “Configure Your Blog List” widget thing manually (using your URL), rather than through the subscriptions thing. It worked beautifully for me, and even your icon shows up next to the title of your blog. You can see it on my homepage for yourself.
Yeah, I noticed that on your blog (thanks by the way!). I figured it must be because you know how to do cool things… including putting #bookblogchat on your blog! (So jealous, have not been able to figure out how to override the system and do it here on WordPress).
Thanks for letting people know how to do that — I hope it helps you Blogger folks!
I have my blogroll under Fun Stuff up above, but I like ease of having it in the column like you do, so I think I am going to switch it this week.
Hehe, thanks! Yeah, the bookblogchat thing is cool, but you’d have to know how to augment your template’s HTML code in order to get it to work on WordPress. This is one of the reasons why I halted my move to WP abruptly. I know just enough HTML to be a little dangerous…not enough to make a template do something it isn’t built to do in the first place. Even then, WP kind of goes out of the way to say that they don’t accommodate random Java/HTML code, so honestly, it may be that you cannot get it to work…period.
The whole adding your blog to the blogroll thing was easy, it just took a minute to figure out which way I needed to add it in order for it to show up correctly.
If you have a web-designer friend, now would be a good time to call in a favor.
So now that this has been merged with #BBlog, where does the 9/10 discussion fall? I checked the schedule over at bblog, and it’s not on there.
That will be the last convo on #bbokblogchat. I’ll make sure to tell everyone throughout that chat that I am merging with #bblog, and I will change this page at that point too — so it is not confusing.
Cool – thanks for clearing that up for me.
So_Meow misses you on Twitter!! I unfollowed you just long enough to re-follow you so Rory’s picture would be at the top of my following list and…oops…I lost you! Help!
